The Advantages of Small Business in Social Media
We hear a lot of worry about social media from small businesses. "We're not big enough yet" and "We don't need a website yet" are two of the big ones. These assumptions are simply wrong. Small businesses have a much higher success rate in social media campaigns than their larger counterparts. Why? People don't trust big business. Typically, customers don't make personal connections with the cashier at Walmart or the teller at their big-chain bank. They do however connect with the smaller business owner. Small Business customers are looking for an expert that they can trust - and even more importantly, employees and owners that they can connect with. It is this human element that makes small business so successful in social media - because local means it's their neighbors and friends running the favorite coffee shop or car repair place. They know that by connecting with you, through social media, they will be treated as a friend and a member of the local community. As a small business online, you have the ability to be candid and in touch with your customers. You hear what your customers think about you and can turn negative experiences into positive ones. Social media allows you to do all of this easily. Additionally it broadens your company reach because making referrals is easy. That's why you should get involved!
By nature, small business is all about making connections - which is what those like buttons are for. So, next time you think about your company starting a website or social media campaign, don't automatically think you are not big enough. Not being big is the biggest advantage you have!
