The painful part of selling is selling.

Just finished a 2 1/2 hour long client meeting and it ended with no sale.

My prospective client thought she wanted me to design a new E-commerce website for her. That is a wonderful job to land. But I didn't. After talking thoroughly with the client about the goals for her small business, it was clear she didn't need to invest that kind of money in a custom website. She could very likely be happy selling directly on Facebook where the majority of her customers are.

She is delighted at the prospect and is happy not to sink a lot of money in a custom site.

The painful part of selling is selling. So don't sell. Offer your services if and when they would be helpful. Then it never feels like selling. It always feels like giving.
